Meet the Team

David WoodCEO

David Wood

Our CEO David has been with CSS Group for 21 years (with an 18-month sabbatical in 2007). Coming from a sporting background, David was a golf professional at Goodwood Golf Club, until a knee injury stopped him from playing at a higher level. David discovered the world of Travel and On Trade catering supply at just the right time, and the rest is history! CSS Group grew from a small start-up with very little cash to the national and international business it is today - we now enjoy profitability and £28 million revenue. As CSS Group expanded, David’s partners moved onto other things, leading him to complete an MBO with venture capitalists Albion Ventures. This fitted perfectly with his passion for sales, purchasing and meeting people from different walks of life.

When he’s not running the business, David still enjoys playing (now amateur) golf and is a proud holder of a handicap of 6. David is also a motorbike enthusiast, regularly riding on track days, and with his need for speed he’s also completed all 4 levels of Californian Superbike School. David cites his time at CSS Group as a real education and, like the rest of the team, has been on a learning journey within the business. In a business capacity, David benefits from the mentoring of an ex-FTSE 100 managing director and spends time meeting with business leaders and motivational speakers such as Marshall Goldsmith, Philip Hesketh and Professor Steven Peters.

Paul HilderCFO

Paul Hilder

Paul has been with CSS Group since February 2008 and deals with all things finance, managing the finance team, as well as acting as a main point of contact for IT, HR, Legal, Compliance and HMRC. A qualified chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser, Paul started out working in practice with CSS Group’s auditors, before making the jump to work in industry with us.

After a short break from learning after he completed his qualifications, Paul soon realised that to help the business grow, he needed to first grow his own skills. This rekindled his love for learning, and he’s now an avid reader, mountain climber, football fan and movie-lover.

Mark WalkerHead of Operations

Mark Walker

Mark joined CSS Group in September 2017 as our Head of Operations. With over 30 years’ experience working in fast-paced, customer-driven environments, Mark was the perfect man for the job. Coming from an operations background, Mark’s extensive knowledge of warehousing and logistics allows him to oversee everything here at CSS Group, from expediting orders to stock control and customer delivery to warehouse functions.

A daredevil and adventurer at heart, Mark has done a skydive from 15,000 feet and trekked remote parts of the Great Wall of China. Mark is always challenging himself, with his current efforts focused on learning to golf, his greatest challenge yet!

Kim SmithOffice Manager

Kim Smith

Office Manager, Kim, has a wealth of office and administration experience and has been working in the sector for 19 years in a variety of leadership roles. Kim started out at CSS at the beginning of 2016 as an Office Supervisor and her excellent organisational skills and wealth of experience soon promoted her to her current position.

When she’s not busy making sure everything in the CSS office is running according to plan, Kim enjoys spending time with her family and is a fan of true life crime documentaries and books. An avid quiz lover, Kim has been sending off Take a Break quizzes for 20 years and is waiting for the winning ticket. Kim also loves to travel and has quite the bucket list, including Rwanda, Iceland, Machu Picchu and Route 66.

Charlotte ConstableTeam Leader

Charlotte Constable

Charlotte started with CSS Group as a Sales Order Processor, back in 2014. In July 2016, Charlotte’s in-depth knowledge of our products and operations earned her a promotion to Travel team leader.

When she’s not working, Charlotte is a very family-orientated person and there’s nothing she likes more than spending time with her big family; she has six sisters, one brother and 15 nieces and nephews!

Yasemin HigginsStock Controller

Yasemin Higgins

Yasemin has been with CSS Group since early 2016 as a Deputy Team Leader of Stock Control. A mathematician with professional experience in multibillion pound retailers she’s the perfect fit for the stock control team. With a strong focus on numbers and a photographic memory, she’s clearly up for the task. This was demonstrated when she memorised 606 digits of pi in two weeks, making her a national record holder since 2012!

On a daily basis, Yasemin looks after our Travel clients, specialising in cruises and she’s always finding new ways to improve her performance. When she’s not looking after our cruise clients, Yasemin updates and builds new procedures as well as training staff. Her ambition, focused approach and endless support to CSS team in various areas is second to none; ultimately, she would like to become a director of CSS. Out of work, Yasemin is busy studying away and looks forward to completing her MBA in Strategic Leadership.
